What To Expect At Your Extraction Appointment In Dallas
Anesthetic & Sedation
We will administer local anesthesia to numb your mouth for the procedure, ensuring you don’t feel any pain or discomfort during the extraction. Also, if you feel uneasy about pulling a tooth, talk to Dr. Robotham about our dental sedation options to help you feel calm during your procedure.
Tooth Extraction Aftercare
After removing a tooth, keeping the extraction area clean and infection-free is critical. Dr. Robotham provides each patient-specific tooth extraction aftercare instructions. Generally, tooth extraction aftercare instructions include gently swishing with an antimicrobial rinse several times each day, taking prescribed antibiotics and pain relievers as directed, and getting some rest. Give yourself at least two days away from rigorous activity to ensure a speedy recovery.
Types Of Dental Extractions
SIMPLE EXTRACTIONS
Is the tooth that you need to be removed visible? If so, then simple tooth extraction will do. Since the teeth are not impacted underneath the gums, there is no need for oral surgery. The removal process is straightforward. Dr. Robotham uses a dental tool (known as an elevator) to twist the tooth until it’s loosened, and then she removes it with forceps.
NON-IMPACTED WISDOM TEETH
Wisdom teeth often do not erupt appropriately because of a lack of space in the mouth. As a result, many wisdom teeth become impacted in the gums and need to be surgically removed.
However, this isn’t always the case.
If your wisdom teeth aren’t impacted and have erupted straight without causing any problems, you may not need to remove them. However, even when wisdom teeth aren’t impacted, they may cause problems and warrant an extraction.
Suppose wisdom teeth are causing damage to your surrounding teeth, repeatedly getting infected, causing pain/difficulty chewing, or you have cysts that develop in the mouth. In that case, you will likely need your wisdom teeth extracted. We perform extractions on non-impacted wisdom teeth visible above the gum line, and this will only require an essential extraction with standard loosening and removal.
SURGICAL EXTRACTIONS
Removing teeth trapped beneath the gumline might be intimidating to some, but Dr. Robotham can meticulously perform surgical extractions in some cases. Our expert Dallas dentist carefully opens the gumline and removes the tooth during surgical, dental extractions.
