Dental Fillings In Dallas

What Are Dental Fillings?

Dental fillings are used to fill a tooth that has cavities or has been damaged due to dental trauma. At Lakewood Dental Studio, Dr. Leisa Robothamrestores teeth with dental fillings to rebuild the tooth structure for increased durability after minor tooth decay or damage.

Did You Know…

Once the anesthetic has worn off, you can continue your day as usual after receiving a composite filling. Composite fillings harden by the end of the appointment so that you can eat and drink as usual.

  • Consultation

We ask you to come in for a consultation so we can determine if a dental filling is an appropriate solution for your tooth.

  • Decay Removal

If you have a cavity, we must administer a local anesthetic and remove decay. Dr. Robotham uses a shade guide to match the resin to your natural shade of the teeth so that the composite filling blends in with the affected tooth.

  • Etching

After removing the decayed or infected tissue, Dr. Robotham applies an acid etching solution to the tooth. This solution encourages the bonding process.

  • Filling

Then, the composite resin material is applied to the tooth in layers, and each layer is cured with UV light. This quickly hardens the filling.

  • NATURAL APPEARANCE

Also known as tooth-colored fillings, composite fillings are a minimally invasive and highly aesthetic option for filling a damaged or decayed tooth. Made of biocompatible materials, they mimic the natural appearance and function of your real teeth.

    METAL-FREE

Composite fillings don’t contain mercury or other heavy metals, so they are perfect for those with metal allergies or weary of having a dental filling made of metal.

    CONSERVATIVE

Because we don’t have to remove as much of the tooth’s structure, composite fillings are one of the most conservative tooth-filling options.

    • How Long Do Fillings Take?

Typically, we can get patients in and out of their dental filling appointments in less than an hour.

    • How Long Do Dental Fillings Last?

How long a filling will last depends on the material, the location of the tooth, and wear and tear. At Lakewood Dental Studio in Dallas, we exclusively use composite fillings, which have an average lifespan of 5-7 years.

The best way to prevent the degradation of your fillings is to reduce the force they encounter. This means wearing a mouthguard to sleep if you are guilty of teeth grinding, avoiding chewing hard, sticky, or crunchy foods, chewing on hard objects, and opening packages with your teeth.

    Did You Know…

Traditional amalgam fillings can cause dental discoloration because they are silver in color. Do you have existing silver fillings that you’d like to upgrade? Dr. Robotham can help with that too.
